Master Zhenzan Dao


Zhenzan Dao is an intersex and transgender Daoist monk. They are the founder of the practice tradition of MogaDao—encompassing MogaDao Qigong, MogaDao Yoga, MogaDao Gongfu, Empty Sky Meditation, and Depth Sexology—and the Heartmind Warrior Training Program at the MogaDao Institute. They are also a poet, novelist, and writer on a wide variety of religious, philosophical, and cultural subjects, and the director of the theater company SACRA: Immanence Theater. Before founding MogaDao, they were a professor of Literature, and a farrier and horse trainer. They have been a Stegner Fellow in Poetry at Stanford University, and their first novel was published by Penguin Books.

They live deep in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico, in a small cabin, where they follow a monastic schedule of training in all five of the MogaDao disciplines, the manual labor of rustic husbandry, meditation and prayer, religious study, and the writing of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction on subjects pertaining to aesthetics, Daoism, and human flourishing.
